Skating has been a lifelong passion of mine. I began figure skating at just 2 years old at the outdoor rink in St. Ignace, Michigan, where my love for the ice first took root. As I grew older, skating continued to be a major part of my life. I went on to compete with the Northstar Figure Skating Club in Cheboygan and later continued my skating journey at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. I eventually had the opportunity to share my love of skating with others by teaching figure skating and Learn to Skate programs at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace.
Today, I’m a proud mom of two beautiful girls, and skating remains an important part of our family life. My oldest daughter is a hockey goalie, and my youngest has recently started skating. Some of my favorite moments are spent at the rink—on the ice, sharing time with my girls, and helping others discover the joy and confidence that skating can bring.
Skating has shaped so much of who I am. It has taught me confidence, discipline, perseverance, and, most importantly, the joy of simply being on the ice. These are the lessons I hope to pass on to the next generation, whether a child dreams of playing hockey, competing, or just skating for fun.
I believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn to skate in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment. Living in the Upper Peninsula, where winters are long and the rink becomes such an important part of life, I understand how valuable it is for kids to have activities that build confidence and create lasting memories. My goal is to help every child become a strong, capable skater while developing a lifelong love for the ice.
Giving back to the community is very important to me. St. Ignace is home, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to share something I’ve loved since childhood with the surrounding communities. I am especially passionate about making skating accessible to every child, regardless of financial circumstances.
Through Edge U.P. Power Skating, my hope is to offer more than instruction. I want every child who steps on the ice to feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged while building skills, confidence, and a genuine love for skating.
Growing up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, I learned to skate on a backyard rink, where I developed a passion for both hockey and skating that continues to shape my life today.
My collegiate athletic career began at Finlandia University, where I played baseball before transferring to Lake Superior State University. While at Lake State, I played ACHA hockey under Coach Steven Kaunisto before transitioning into coaching.
My coaching experience includes serving as the head coach of the Lake Superior State ACHA Division III team and as an assistant coach for the university’s ACHA Division I women’s team. During that time, our team earned a silver medal at the ACHA National Championships in St. Louis.
Following my coaching career at Lake Superior State, I founded the St. Ignace Saints Senior A Hockey program. The organization’s mission extends far beyond the game itself. Our primary goal is to increase youth hockey participation throughout the region by creating opportunities for players to develop their skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
Power skating is one of the most important foundations of hockey development, and I’m excited for the opportunity to share the techniques, knowledge, and experiences I’ve gained throughout my playing and coaching career with the next generation of athletes.
